How to pace a 5K race.

5K is short enough to feel hard from early on. Hold back for the first kilometre, settle, then lift the final kilometre.

First km

A few seconds slower than goal pace. Resist the crowd.

Middle 3 km

On pace, controlled, breathing under control.

Final km

Lift effort, then push the final 400 m.
